Nordic Bulk erstatter stål med plast

Nordic Bulk Carriers vil bruge luger af plast i stedet for stål på et af sine fragtskibe. Det danske rederi har fået godkendelse fra Panamas flagmyndighed til brug af fiberforstærket letvægts komposit. Det er første gang, at denne struktur har fået grønt lys til at blive brugt på et SOLAS skib.

”Vi har bidraget med vores knowhow til DNV-GL, der i samarbejde med det japanske værft Oshima har produceret et smart letvægtsdesign, der løser mange af de problemer, der er med stål luger”, siger Tommy Hertzberg, brandforsker ved SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden.

I samarbejde med SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden, vil Nordic ombygge et af sine bulkskibe bygget på Japans Oshima værftet. Designet forventes at gøre skibet lettere og reducerer brændstofforbruget.
