Norröna to call Hirtshals all year round
SHIPPING: As part of company development and streamlining operational expenses, Smyril Line has decided today to sail to and from Hirtshals all year round. This means that Hirtshals becomes Norröna's Danish port, in winter and summer.
Norröna's first trip to Hirtshals will be on October 2, 2010. The port of Hirtshals is well-suited in all weather conditions and a great passenger port. It is also close to many large and medium-sized cities, such as Hjørring, Fredrikshavn and Aalborg. Moreover it is easy to travel to and from Hirtshals, because of its excellent road and train connections.
This change will shorten the trip to Denmark in winter by about 3 hours. Furthermore the new sailing schedule will improve connections to Norway, as both Color Line and Fjord Line sail between Hirtshals and Norway, bringing the Norwegian market considerably closer and offering passengers great opportunities to travel between the countries.
Smyril Line has enjoyed close cooperation with the Port of Hanstholm for over 20 years, and the management would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude. The Port of Hanstholm is working on upgrading its berth and terminal facilities by 2015. Naturally these changes could, in future, lead Smyril Line to once again look to the opportunities Hanstholm has to offer.
