Kawasaki vil fyre 20 procent af de ansatte

Den japanske skibsbygger Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) har til hensigt at afskedige 20 procent af sine værftsarbejdere. Ifølge Nikkei daily har selskabet også meddelt, det vil lukke den ene af sine to dokke i Sakaide.

Afskedigelserne kan omfatte op til 400 personer, men mindst halvdelen ventes at kunne findes ved pensioneringer samt reduktioner i rekruttering. De resterende arbejdere forventer man at kunne omfordele.

Sakaideværftet, der er specialist i at bygge LNG tankskibe, forventes helt at stoppe med at bygge nye skibe i 2019 efter at ordremængden er faldet. Andre operationer som, konstruktion af robotter eller rullende materiel vil blive overført til anlægget.

Kobe-faciliteten vil i mellemtiden begynde at udfase bygning af specialiserede skibe. Der ventes dog at komme tre færgeordrer i de nærmeste uger, inklusive en fra Tokai Kisen i juni.

KHIs skibs- og offshore-division havde et driftsunderskud på 192 millioner USD i 2016 regnskabsåret, der sluttede den 31. marts 2017.
