Greenland demands strict drilling safety
OPPSHORE: Drill for oil off Greenlands shores has been placed under the strictest requirements to date, according to the country's authorities. International attention to the dangers associated with oil drilling is helping to increase safety as test drilling has started
"We are pleased with the focus because it helps bring about the toughest possible safety standards", Greenland's natural resources minister Ove Karl Berthelsen told the Inuit Circumpolar Council general assembly in Nuuk in July.
Berthelsen's comments came as he discussed the safety and environmental requirements made by the government to Cairn Energy, which has started drilling near Qeqertarsuaq.
Among those requirements include drilling of a relief well, which will allow the company to continue pumping in the case of an accident at the primary drill site
