Vind skal hjælpe ny LNG-drevet tanker frem

Sydkoreas Hyundai Heavy Industries har designet en LNG-drevet VLCC, der også vil benytte vindkraft. Lloyd´s Register har nu godkendt en prototype, der er udstyret med Norsepower´s rotorsejl som supplement til LNG-driften.

“Vi har fokuseret på at udvikle rene og smarte skibe, der er både teknisk pålidelige og kommercielt gennemførlige,” udtaler Hong-Ryeul Ryu, der er vice president i HHI´s designafdeling. “Vi gør vores bedste for at designe avancerede skibe, der vil gavne skibsredere og lede til miljø-venlig shipping,” tilføjer han.

Lloyd´s Register betegner det nye skib som et skridt på vejen i forhold til at kunne overholde IMO´s 2050 mål om reducering af udledning af drivhusgasser fra skibsfarten.
