Verdens kraftigste sejlførende fragtskib

Tørlastrederiet Berge Bulk, der drives fra Singapore, har retrofittet den 5 år gamle Newcastlemax bulkcarrier Berge Olympus med fire store sejl, produceret af Yara Marine Technologies. Sejlene ventes at give en brændstofbesparelse på op til 20 procent.

De fire sejl er hver 37,5 meter høje - hvilket svarer til en 10-etagers bygning - og 20 meter brede, hvorved det samlede sejlareal løber op i 3.000 m2. Det gør Berge Olympus verdens nuværende kraftigste sejlførende fragtskib.

Sammen med andre tiltag, bl.a. en akselgenerator, er målet at reducere skibet CO2-afryk mest muligt, og bidrage til at gøre redriet CO2-neutralt i 2025.

Den 5-år gamle bulkcarrier, der er 300 meter lang og har en tonnage på 211.153 DWT, sejler mellem Brasilien og Kina, en rute der er kendt for favorable vindforhold.
