USS Gunston Hall anløber Kalundborg

Tirsdag morgen ankom det store amerikanske landgangsstøtteskib USS Gunston Hall til Kalundborg, hvor det vil blive liggende i havnen frem til den 26. juli, for at gennemføre såkaldt mid-deployment voyage repair.

USS Gunston Hall er et Whidbey Island-klasse docklandingsskib fra den amerikanske flåde. Skibet kommer fra 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit i US Marine Corps og hører hjemme i Fort Story, Virginia. Lige nu er skibet i Europa, hvor det blandt andet har deltaget i flådeøvelsen BALTOPS.

Det 186 meter lange skib kan medtage 400 soldater og besætningsmedlemmer, og kan fra en indbygget dok søsætte mindre amfibielandgangsfartøjer.
