UNS - new Danish shipping company
SHIPPING: Thor Rederi in Svendborg - owned by Aktieselskabet Sydfyenske Holding - and Rederiet Otto Danielsen in Virum - a subsidiary of Tschudi Shipping Company , Oslo - have decided establish a jointly owned shipping company under the name United Nordic Shipping (UNS).
The new shipping partnership which will have offices in Virum north of Copenhagen and in Svendborg is aimed at consolidation and growth and will focus on small to medium sized vessels in world wide trade. Former CEO in Torm, Klaus Kjaerulff, will be Chairman of the board in UNS.

United Nordic Shipping demonstrates the strength and determination of this segment within Danish shipping", says the shipping company's future chairman, Klaus Kjaerulff.
Søren Andersen, who has been commercial director in Tschudi Shipping Company, Oslo, for a number of years a.o. with responsibility for Rederiet Otto Danielsen, will become CEO of United Nordic Shipping, while chartered accountant Michael Mortensen, CEO of Thor Rederi, takes up the position as CFO and becomes part of the corporate management team of UNS.
Initially, the company will focus on the 18 smaller container- and multi-purpose vessels ranging in size from 1,200-12,000 DWT that are owned by the parties, but future plans include both organic growth and new partnerships.
Sale and purchase of tonnage as well as operational/competitive business will be part of the strategy. The future structure will be flexible with individual or part ownership of vessels including tonnage under management or in pool systems, but the structure will also cater for other investors - industrial or financial.
Commercial operations will be the key element in the new shipping venture, but full shipmanagement and administrative services will also be offered to future partners. The management is currently in dialogue with a potential commercial partner in Singapore in order to achieve operative presence in the Far East.
Apart from Chairman Klaus Kjærulff, the board of directors of UNS will include the experienced shipping executives, Bjarne Tvilde and Per Møller. Corporate CEO Jon Edvard Sundnes, Tschudi Shipping Company A/S, Oslo, and Niels Peter Nielsen, CEO for Aktieselskabet Sydfyenske Holding, represent the respective owners. Shipping lawyer Peter Appel will also be a member of the board.
