Touchscreen var medvirkende til ulykke

Årsagen til den alvorlige kollision mellem den amerikanske destoyer John S. McCain og tankskibet Alnic MC, der kostede 10 amerikanske sømænd livet for snart to år siden, kan være forkert betjening af en touchscreen, der kontrollerede styring og fremdrift, fremgår det af en undersøgelse.

Undersøgelsen, der er gennemført af US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) peger på, at ulykken kan skyldes, at kontrollen med skibet ved en fejl blev overført fra den touchscreen, som styrmanden opererede, til en tilsvarende i skibets modsatte side.

Rapporten bemærker, at uden den føling med styringen, der følger med en mekanisk kontrol og den manglende visibilitet i forhold til rorets position, kan brugen af touchscreens have betydet, at at styrmanden dermed har mistet den vigtige feedback, som en mekanisk styring giver.

På den baggrund anbefaler rapporten den amerikanske flåde, at touchscreens udskiftes med gammeldags mekanisk styring.
