Søfartsstyrelsen med i ny satellit

Mandag den 25. februar bliver en satellit opsendt i samarbejde mellem Søfartsstyrelsen og Aalborg Universitet. Satellitten indgår i et pilotprojekt om satellitbaseret AIS-overvågning af skibstrafikken i de arktiske farvande.

”Der er ingen tvivl om, at der er store muligheder for at forbedre sejladssikkerheden i Arktis via AIS-data”, siger Francis Zachariae, vicedirektør i Søfartsstyrelsen.

”Vi har valgt at samarbejde med Aalborg Universitet, da vi gerne vil styrke udviklingen af satellitbaserede AIS-data”, siger Zachariae.

Forventningen er, at der med satellitbaserede data kan indhentes flere informationer af højere kvalitet fra skibene i Arktis. Samtidig vil det på sigt også kunne blive billigere at kvalitetssikre dataene.

Fakta

• Satellitten er bygget af en gruppe studerende fra Aalborg Universitet. • Selve satellitten måler kun 10x10x10 cm. og har en vægt på under 1 kg.

• Den bliver sendt ud i rummet ved hjælp af en raket, som den indiske rumfartsorganisation ISRO opsender fra Chennai i Indien.

• Satellitten forventes opsendt mandag den 25. februar kl. 13.22 dansk tid.
