Scandlines wants the Polish market
Scandlines wants to begin running ferry services to and from Poland. One of the possibilities under consideration is to buy the Polish state shipping company Polferries, which is expected to go for sale within short time
"We are looking for opportunities for sailing in Poland", says John Steen-Mikkelsen, vice president of Scandlines to the newspaper Kurier Szczecinski. Poland is the only country in the region not covered by Scandlines ferry services.
"If the privatisation is carried through this year, we will focus on it", says John Steen-Mikkelsen to the Polish newspaper.
Polferries runs services between Swinojscie and Ystad, Copenhagen and Ronne and between Gdansk and Nynäshamn.
A possible buy-up of Polferries or the implementation of a new service will mean that Scandlines will compete with itself on the partly owned service between Sassnitz and Trelleborg.
