OSK-ShipTech doubles CFD capabilities
SHIPPING SERVICE: OSK-ShipTech has doubled its cluster capacity within CFD, and now hold 6 STAR CCM+ licenses. That brings their total node inventory up to 100 and helps OSK-ShipTech to ensure a very high standard within CFD.
The new licenses enables OSK-ShipTech to perform more advanced CFD calculations. Besides the new nodes and licences, the investment also includes two new High Performance Computing servers.
With this investment, OSK-ShipTech stands ready to meet the future demands from the continuously growing number of customers that seek trustworthy and accurate CFD calculations implemented on their ship design.
OSK-ShipTech has been engaged in numerous projects regarding optimisation of hull form, propellers, appendage alignment as well as wave force studies just to name a few.
The company has made CFD simulations for the offshore wind industry in order to clarify the forces acting on foundations. The structures will be affected by the flow under surface as well as the wave loads. With a CFD analysis it is possible to test the forces of the flow and the waves to see how the structure reacts and thereby dimensioning the structure before constructing it.
Another example of how OSK-Shiptech uses CFD calculation is the optimisation of vessels. OSK-ShipTech was contracted by a large shipping company to investigate and clarify the reasons for excessive fuel consumption compared to vessels of similar type, size and capacity. With a CFD analysis it was found that an aft trim in connection with a redesigned bulbous bow would reduce the resistance with approximately 10 %.
