Ørsted trækker stikket på e-metanol

Ørsted har lukket et stort e-metanol projekt i Sverige ned, og afskriver et milliardbeløb investeret i projektet. Planen var at bygge et anlæg - Flagship One - i Örnsköldsvik, med en forventet kapacitet på 55.000 ton e-metanol per år

Projektet blev sat i gang i 2022, og var planlagt til at være det dengang største e-matanol projekt i Europa. Opførelsen gik i gang sidste år, men nu er alt lagt stille.

Ørsted begrunder beslutningen med lav markedsvækst og vabskeligheder med at sikre langvarige aftagere.

"Selvom vi var opmærksomme på de væsentlige usikkerheder og risici forbundet med udviklingen af ​​et banebrydende og umodent e-brændstof-projekt og -marked på beslutningstidspunktet, var det et strategisk valg at tage en førende position i formningen af ​​industrien", skriver Ørsted om sagen i sit halvårsregnskab.

"Forretningscasen er blevet forværret på grund af den manglende evne til at indgå langsigtede aftagelseskontrakter til bæredygtige priser og væsentligt højere projektomkostninger", hedder det videre i regnskabet.

Det var planen at anlægget skulle starte produktionen op næste år.
