Ødelagt destroyer hjem på heavy-lift skib

Den amerikanske flåde har besluttet, at destroyeren USS Fitzgerald, der blev alvorlig skadet ved døds-kollisionen i juni i japansk farvand, skal transporteres hjem til USA på et heavy-lift skib. Det vil ifølge Reuter allerede kunne ske i september.

Ved kollisionen med et containerskib den 17. juni ud for Yokohama i Japan blev syv amerikanske marinesoldater dræbt og skibet led store skader, der kan koste helt op til 500 mio. dollar at udbedre, ifølge endnu helt uofficielle overslag.

Overvejelsen om transporten af skibet er nu tilendebragt, og flåden har -

som forventet -

valgt samme transportform, som blev brugt, da destroyeren USS Cole, skulle transporteres til USA efter terrorangrebet i Yemen i år 2000.

Dengang blev skibet fragtet hjem ombord på heavy-lift skibet Blue Marlin. Nu skal operationen så gentages i løbet af kort tid. Det er endnu ikke oplyst, hvilket værft, der skal reparere destroyeren.
