Monjasa to run tank installation in Skagen
Monjasa has entered into an agreement with the Port of Skagen on the construction and use of a tank installation for petroleum fuel to ships in and out of the harbor. Port of Skagen will build storage facilities that will be operated by Monjasa on a long-term contract.
"It is the result of a long-term and strategic work to develop new business areas that can create growth and complement the port's core area of fishery. Skagen has for several years worked on developing the port and thereby create the conditions for new business areas for cultivation", said Port Director Willy Bent Hansen.
Monjasa’s services cover all aspects of bunkers, lubricants and oil trading.
"The agreement with Monjasa is to create a solid foundation for the future port expansion and will eventually create revenue for several port services. Port of Skagen will more attractive for ships, as parallel to the agreement there also is a spin-off about the possibility of delivery of slop oil to tank facilities in the port", says Willy Bent Hansen.
CEO of Monjasa Jan Jacobsen believes that the time of conclusion is optimal because markets for commercial shipping is showing signs of redress from a depressed market since 2008.
"The company has a goal to create further market share in the bunker market in and around Skagen. Skagen is seen to be extremely well positioned geographically and can therefore provide an optimal platform for delivery of petroleum products to vessels in and out of the harbor", said Jan Jacobsen.
The technical work on the design and approval of the installation will be started in the very near future. The tank installation is expected to be completed in the course of 2014.
