Maersk launches eco-friendly containers
CLIMATE: In connection with the UN climate conference in Copenhagen in December A.P.Møller-Mærsk will introduce a new and more environmentally friendly floor system for containers. Instead of hardwood plywood floors the new container has a wood plastic floor.
In cooperation with the Swedish timber manufacturer VIDA Packaging i Vetlanda, Maersk has developed the new and more environmental friendly containerfloor. Vida has already received an order for the first 5.000 floors, worth 10 million Swedish kroners.
If the new containers are a success, much bigger orders will follow.
Before the shipping downturn started, Maersk produced about 200.000 containers in China each year. Today the production is somewhat smaller.
