Grønlands olieeventyr skrumper

Undergrunden ud for Grønlands nordøstkyst indeholder kun en femtedel af den mængde olie, som man havde håbet. Det viser en ny amerikansk opgørelse, som er baseret på data fra De Nationale Geologiske Undersøgelser for Danmark og Grønland.

Olieeventyret i Grønland er sendt på slankekur, endnu før det er kommet i gang. Det skriver fagbladet Ingeniøren.

En ny opgørelse fra de USA's geologiske undersøgelser, U.S. Geological Survey, fastsætter mængden af olie i undergrunden ud for Nordøstgrønland til en femtedel af, hvad det seneste skøn fra år 2000 viste.

Der er kun ni milliarder tønder olie ved Grønlands nordøstkyst, fastslår U.S. Geological Survey, og ikke 47 milliarder tønder, som blev estimeret i år 2000.

Skønnet dækker de oliemængder, som det vil være teknisk muligt at hente op fra undergrunden, hvis hav isen forsvinder, eller der bliver udviklet teknologi til at bringe olie op til overfladen, selv om den bliver liggende. Det er ikke muligt i dag.

Når det gælder gasforekomsterne, er amerikanerne ikke lige så pessimistiske. Dem anslår de til 2.440 milliarder kubikmeter, en anelse mere end skønnet fra 2000. Dertil kommer otte milliarder tønder flydende naturgas.

Hvis dataene viser sig at være rigtigt, vil Grønland stadig være nr. 19 ud af de 500 største olie- og gasområder i verden.
