DONG awarded wind power concession
OFFSHORE: Danish Oil and Natural Gas (DONG) has been awarded concession rights to major new wind power projects off the coast of Scotland. The Wigtown Bay project will comprise turbines with a total capacity of between170 and 280 megawatts.
Dong Energy spokesman Andreas Krog told the Direkt news bureau, that the approval - one out of ten approvals - was welcome news, and will now be followed by major survey and consultation work.
If all approvals are granted, Wigtown Bay could be operational in 2017, Krog told Direkt.
The 10 exclusivity agreements are designed to allow developers to begin initial survey and consultation processes for their sites while the Scottish Government conducts a Strategic Environmental Assessment, the press release confirmed. Option fees will not be payable until the award of lease agreements in 2010.
"The award of 10 exclusivity agreements is excellent news for the companies involved", Rob Hastings, Director of the Marine Estate at The Crown Estate, said in a press release. "We very much look forward to working with the companies on the development of these sites and the realisation of the enormous potential that these sites have to offer."
