BP tilbyder milliardforlig efter katastrofe

Olieselskabet BP forsøger nu at indgår et forlig der en gang for alle afslutter erstatningskravene mod selskabet, efter branden om bord på boreriggen Deepwater Horizon og den efterfølgende olieforurening i 2010.

Financial Times skriver, at BP har tilbudt at indgå et endeligt forlig på 15 milliarder dollar, svarende til ca. 85 milliarder kroner. Pengene skal dække alle de erstatningssager der er rejst mod olieselskabet fra den amerikanske regering, lokale myndigheder og et stort antal privatpersoner.

Selv om 15 milliarder dollar er et gigantisk beløb, ligger det dog langt under de 25 milliarder dollar som den amerikanske regering har tilkendegivet, at den mener at et forlig bør rumme.

Ud over de 15 milliarder dollar BP nu tilbyder i erstatning, har olieselskabet allerede brugt 37 milliarder dollar på at fjerne sporene efter ulykken.

11 personer blev dræbt ved branden og den efterfølgende eksplosion om bord på Deepwater Horizon. Omkring 5 millioner tønder råolie løb ud i havet fra den utætte undersøiske brønd.
