Sydkorea truer strejkende med fængsel

Tusindvis af strejkende lastbilschauffører har siden torsdag lukket flere havne i Sydkorea og nu truer regeringen de strejnde med fængselsstraffe, hvis de ikke retter ind og gentoptager arbejdet. Ifølge regeringen truer strejken med at “ødelægge fundamentet for vores industrier”, skriver Splash.

“Det kan på ingen måde retfærdiggøres at tage mennesker liv og den nationale økonomi som gidsler for at nå deres egne mål,” lød det efter et regeringsmøde tirsdag fra præsident Yoon Suk Yeol.

Tusindvis af medlemmer af fagforeningen Cargo Truckers Solidarity har været i strejke siden sidste torsdag i deres anden landsdækkende strejke siden juni. De opfordrer regeringen til at forlænge og udvide det system, der står til at udløbe ved årsskiftet, der beregner minimumslønningerne på baggrund af driftsudgifter.

De strejkende peger på, at de arbejder døgnet rundt, mens de forsøger at klare stigende brændstofudgifter uden et grundlæggende socialt sikkerhedsnet.

Strejken har ført til, at kapaciteten i landets havne i snit er faldet med 21 pct. mens nogle havne - bl.a. Ulsan er helt lukket.
