Strammere reglerne for eksport af dyr

New Zealand strammer nu reglerne for eksport af levende dyr fra landet. Det sker på baggrund af sidste måneds forlis, hvor kvægtransportskibet Gulf Livestock 1 sank i en storm og tog 5.500 stykker kvæg og 41 besætningsmedlemmer med sig i dybet.

De nye regler indebærer en begrænsning af antallet af dyr om bord på skibene, således at antallet nu højest må udgøre 90 procent af det hidtil tilladte antal. Dertil kommer et krav om daglige veterinære indberetninger og syn af alle skibe der transporterer dyr, når de anløber havn i New Zealand.

Trods gentagne eftersøgninger er det ikke lykkedes at finde spor efter de 41 savnede besætningsmedlemmer fra Gulf Livestock 1.

Tre besætningsmedlemmer blev fundet i live efter forliset, men en døde kort efter uden at være kommet til bevidsthed.
