Stærke spillere sammen om sikker udnyttelse

Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping går ud sammen med Lloyds Register om at udvikle retningslinjer for sikker brug af ammoniak som brændstof i skibe. Ammoniak fremstillet grønt kan blive få en nøglerolle i en CO2-neutral fremtid, men stoffet er langt fra ufarligt.

Ammoniak kan fremstilles ved hjælp af bæredygtige energikilder, men er samtidig giftigt både for mennesker og miljø, og de to parter vil derfor sammen med Maersk, MAN Energy Solutions og Mitsubishi Heavy Industries udvikle en detaljeret forståelse omkring risici og sikkerhed ved brug af det mulige fremtidige brændstof.

Projektet vil også vurdere alternative skibsdesign optimeret for ammoniak-drift efter vurdering af risici for dødsfald ved utilsigtet frigivelse af kemikaliet og vurdere andet udstyr og dedikerede opbevaringsmuligheder.

Projektet vil blive finansieret af de deltagende parter og skal ledes af Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller center.

“I iveren efter at dekarbonisere skibsfarten er korrekt risiko-styring kritisk og sikkeheden må ikke komme i anden række,” siger Claus Winter Graugaard, der er leder af skibsløsninger i det nye center.

"Projektpartnerne repræsenterer hver især forskellige områder i forsyningskæden ved udvikling af vejledningerne og risikoreducerende tiltag samt best practice ved brugen af ammoniak, så vi kan understøtte en sikker anvendelse af brændstoffet,” udtaler Charles Haskel, der er programmanager i Lloyds Register.
