Smedegaards sick leave extended
SHIPPING: Pending further surgery to fix a heart problem, Nils Smedegaard Andersen, CEO A.P. Moller-Maersk, will remain on sick leave for another six to eight weeks. Andersen had been convalescing since late December last year.
"The management team has passed the test and shown it is robust and will also be able to handle the extension of Nils Andersen's sick leave without any loss of momentum", says Chairman of the Board Michael Pram Rasmussen Rasmussen in a statement.
Andersen was expected to be away for a month but his sick leave was extended at the end of January for two months, after which he had been expected to resume his duties on Monday, slightly ahead of schedule. But his physicians decided differently on Friday.
"We have the doctors' word that this is the time Nils Smedegaard needs to recover from the corrective operatio", says Michael Pram Rasmussen.
According to Rasmussen. Andersen's absence did not give reason to consider any changes in the group's six-member executive board.
