Rohde Nielsen obtains German contract
Until 2016 around 23.3 million Euro have been allocated for filling sand by Sild. Environmental Minister Robert Habeck decided on Friday to allocate this amount for the next four years. Danish Rohde Nielsen is awarded the contract.
"We recommended this method to the state government at the time because maintenance requires long-term planning. So far no better way of ensuring the burning coasts has been found", says Helge Jansen, head of the Institute for Coastal Protection.
In March, after an inspection, it will be determined by the Institute for Coastal Protection, representatives of the island, landscape Commission Sild, and the State Agency for Coastal Conservation, where and in what quantities will be filled with sand.
At this stage, Jansen does not wish to state precisely which areas are in need of replenishment. He is, however, suspecting that it may be the case at Hörnum and possibly on Westerland beach and Lister Ellenbogen.
About one million cubic meters of sand is expected to be unloaded at the end of May.
