Piratangreb faldt med 22 % i første halvår

alt er der rapporteret 36 tilfælde af pirateri og væbnede røverier mod skibe, 30 faktiske hændelser og seks forsøg, i Asien, januar-juni 2017, viser en rapport fra Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP).

Det samlede antal hændelser, der blev rapporteret i første halvår 2017, er faldet med 22 procent i forhold til samme periode i 2016. I alt blev der rapporteret 46 hændelser i samme periode 2016.

Episoder, der involverede bortførelse af besætningen fra skibe, mens de befandt sig i Sulu-Celebeshavet og farvande i Østsabah, vækker dog bekymring.Der blev rapporteret i alt syv hændelser, tre faktiske episoder og fire forsøg i januar-april 2017.

Selv om der ikke blev rapporteret nogen hændelser i maj 2017 og juni 2017, er der ikke plads til selvtilfredshed. Fra den 30. juni 2017 er 18 af de 59 besætninger, der er bortført siden marts 2016 stadig i fangenskab.
