Nordic Ferry Services will service Bornholm
SHIPPING: The Danish National Rail Authority has assigned the contract on the ferry service of Bornholm to Nordic Ferry Services, a joint venture between Bornholmstrafikken and Clipper Group. The contract runs from the 1st of September 2011 and six years on.
"With the assigning of the contract to Nordic Ferry Services, Bornholm will receive a service lift for both passengers and cargo handling. On the Ronne-Ystad service, there will be more passenger departures with more room for both passengers and vehicles, whereas on the Ronne-Koge service will have a greater cargo capacity", says Minister of Transportation Lars Barfoed.
The reduced oil consumption is mainly due to the insertion of a new and far more fuel-efficient high-speed ferry, which simultaneously optimises the Ystad service, where passengers and cargo can be handled on the same passages with the new high-speed ferry.
The assignment of the contract is due to the evaluation of Nordic Ferry Services' offer by the Danish National Rail Authority, which was the only offer they had received by the deadline on the 6th of January 2009.
