New Zealand oplægger hvert andet krigsskib

I en tid præget af store militære spændinger, har New Zealand opsigtsvækkende trukket halvdelen af sine seks krigsskib ud af drift. Beslutningen skyldes mandskabsmangel, der er udløst af at mange forlader flåden på grund af lav løn.

Den newzealandske flåde består af ni skibe, hvoraf kun de seks er egentlige krigsskibe - og det er halvdelen af disse krigsskibe, der nu er lagt op.

De oplagte skibe er offshore patruljeskibene HMNZS Wellington og HMNZS Otago,samt kyst patruljeskibet HMNZS Hawea.

Lønningerne i New Zealand steg i 1. halvår i gennemsnit 9 procent. Den gennemsnitlige indkomst ligger nu på 40.000 dollar om året – svarende til 180.000 kroner. Lønningerne i den newzealandske flåde ligger på mellem 144.000 og 171.000 om året.

Skattetrykket i New Zealand er dog væsentlig lavere end i Danmark.
