New Feggesund ferry starts Saturday
SHIPPING: On Saturday morning at 08.10 Feggesund will make its first trip with passengers, thereby sending the old ferry Sallingsund to retirement after having sailed the crossing since 1958. The launch has been postponed due to the final approval arriving late.
“The increased capacity and reliability will minimize any queues and provide stable frequencies. Safety is obviously the first priority when we believe that both the staff and the new Feggesund ferry is now fully ready to welcome the first customers", said chairman of the board for I / S Mors-Thy Færgefart, Viggo Vangsgaard.
The new Feggesund ferry should have been put into operation at the inauguration on 12 October. But at the time not all safety procedures were in place and the crew was not sufficiently trained.
"The postponement was the combination of several factors. The ferry was delayed from the shipyard in Hvide Sande when bad weather made it impossible to sail the ferry to Feggesund on time. As a result, efforts to get the latest details finalized, safety drills for staff and final approvals were not completely ready for the official opening”, says Viggo Vangsgaard.
The new ferry has space for 22 cars or two trucks and seven cars.
