Mol Comfort var ok inden havari

Klassificeringsbureauet, det japanske ClassNK, har udtalt, at der ingen problemer var med MOL Comfort ved en særlig undersøgelse mindre end tre uger før skibet brød i to dele under hårdt vejr. Selskabet siger, at undersøgelsen den 29. maj blev gennemført i fuld overensstemmelse med reglerne.

"Ingen abnormiteter blev observeret under det særlige gennemsyn. Skibet var i fuld overensstemmelse med alle kravene i ClassNK reglerne og IACS regler på tidspunktet, da undersøgelsen blev afsluttet," siger bureauet.

En indgående gennemgang har også fundet, at udformningen af det 8.110-TEU store skib (bygget 2008) fuldt ud har opfyldt alle krav i ClassNK reglerne og IACS regler.

Havariefterforskningsholdet fortsætter med at samarbejde med ejeren MOL, entreprenøren Mitsubishi og offentlige myndigheder om at finde årsagen til katastrofen i Det Indiske Ocean den 17. juni, hvor skibet brækkede over og opdeles i to adskilte sektioner.

Skibets agterdel er siden sunket på 4.000 meters dybde, mens skibets forparti er stabilt og under bugsering.
