Maersk to replace 113 British officers
SHIPPING: Maersk Line plans to replace 113 of its 560 British officers with cheaper Asian crews. As it is the case with its Danish officers, Maersk hopes to reach the reduction through voluntary redundancies.
Maersk Line says, the reason it will have to let the British officers go is the current surplus of officers out of work thanks to the increasing amount of Maersk Line vessels being laid-up.
"We just cannot carry on with a huge surplus of officers", A.P. Moller - Maersk head of marine human resources told Lloyd's List.
Maersk says it can't rule out, that further cuts may be necessary in the future, if the economic climate does not improve.
