Maersk establishes new feedercompany
SHIPPING: Maersk Line has established a new inter-European container shipping company called Seago Line. The subsidiary, which is based in Copenhagen, will take over all of Maersk's and Safmarine's intra-European shipments with effect from April this year.
This includes traffic to the Mediterranean, Russia and the Baltic States. The ships for Seago Line will come from Maersk's container shipping fleet.
The introduction of Seago as a common feeder service adds to APM-Maersk regional carriers, which serve in intra-regional cabotage: MCC Transport (intra-Asia), OACL (South Africa and neighbouring countries) and Brazil's flag carrier Mercosul Line covering its country's cabotage rules.
The goal seems to be to replicate in Europe (with a market share of 15%) the success that in Asia had the Singapore'S MCC Transport , shipping company dedicated to its local market that
currently operates 50 feeder ships.
