Græsk støtte til begrænsning af motorkraft

Grækenland tilslutter sig forslag om at reducere skibenes motorkraft som et skridt på vejen til at reducere skibsfartens CO2-udledning. Forslaget blev fremsat af BIMCO og bakkes op af bl.a. Maersk.

Hidtil har Grækenland støttet forslaget om at reducere skibenes hastighed, der ikke mindst er blevet markedsført af Frankrig, men er blevet skudt ned af store dele af branchen, bl.a. af Maersk.

Argumentet for afvisningen har været, at en nedsat hastighed - uden yderligere krav - blot ville gavne redere, der ikke har investeret i nyere og mere brændstofeffektive og miljøvenlige skibe.

Forslaget om i stedet at reducere motorkraften vil også betyde en lavere CO2-udledning, men vil belønne de skibsejere, der har investeret i en moderne flåde, der får mere ud af skibenes maskinkraft.

Samtidig vil forslaget om reduceret maskinkraft dog også lede til en lavere hastighed.

Grækenland foreslår, at tankskibe og tørlastskibe skal reducere deres hovedmotorkraft med 50 pct, mens containerskibe skal reducere med 66 pct.

Forslagene skal senere drøftes på møder i IMO.
