Energy consumption to be reduced
OFFSHORE: The Danish Energy Regulator - Energistyrelsen - has expressed opinions, that too much energy is used on the Danish platforms in the North Sea. Therefore Energistyrelsen will now, in cooperation with the operators, try to reduce the energy consumption offshore.
"Four percent of the total Danish energy consumption is consumed offshore, so the first step has been to map the energy consumption with the operators", says Henrik Andersen, director of Energistyrelsens safety unit to jyskevestkysten.dk
Energistyrelsen has out down a strategy for Danish energy policy from 2008 to 2011, and the goal is to simply reduce the consumption on the platforms. Here, the three big energy consumers are; flaring, gas compression and the crew's everyday life energy consumption.
"Some of the things we are working with, is trying to figure out whether the gas pressure can be lowered so less energy is needed for the gas compression, or if the platforms can be supplied with energy from the sea windmill parks. The latter may be possible if we put in new installations but it is doubtful whether it can be done using the old ones", says Henrik Andersen.
