En tredje midlertidig kanal er åbnet - men kun for mindre skibe

En seks meter dyb kanal er nu etableret som den tredje sejlrute ind til havnen i Baltimore efter Francis Scott Key broens kollaps, der dræbte seks arbejdere. Men de store containerskibe må fortsat vente.

Med åbningen af den tredje midlertidige vej ind til havnen i Baltimore skulle det nu være muligt at genoptage 15 pct. af den kommercielle aktivitet til og fra havnen.

Målet er at etablere en dybere kanal inden udgangen af denne måned og få havnen tilbage på fuld kapacitet inden udgangen af maj, skriver Splash.

Det 9.962 teu store containerskib Dali, der var årsagen til kollapset, står fortsat solidt plantet tvunget ned mod bunden af de mellem 3.000 og 4.000 tons rester af broen.

Foreløbig har kraner fjernet 120 containere fra skibet - og flere skal fjernes, inden det bliver muligt at fjerne resterne af broen - og efterfølgende skibet.

Der er fortsat ikke noget tidsestimat for, hvornår det kan ske.

Foreløbig har bjærgningsmandskabet fjernet mere end 1.300 tons stål fra Patapsco-floden af det, der var Baltimores længste bro.
