DFDS fortsætter på skotsk-belgisk fragtrute

Fremtiden er sikret for fragtruten mellem Rosyth i Skotland og Zeebrugge i Belgien efter, at DFDS Seaways har indgået en ny aftale med den skotske regering og havneoperatøren Forth Ports. Færgeruten har været i fare for at blive nedlagt på grund af de nye svovlregler, men nu sikrer aftalen, at ruten fortsætter.

”Vi er meget glade for at kunne fortsætte denne fragtrute til fordel for vores kunder, for hvem det var vigtigt at sikre deres transportforretning mellem Belgien og Skotland. Vi har altid følt os meget forpligtede til denne rute, og vi er meget tilfredse med, at vi med en god dialog med den skotske regering og Forth Ports var i stand til at finde en løsning for at kunne opretholde denne rute i lyset af de kommende svovlkrav, som vil udgøre enorme udfordringer for transportindustrien”, siger Niels Smedegaard, adm. direktør for DFDS.

Det er Skotlands eneste ro/ro-færgeforbindelse til det kontinentale Europa. Ifølge Forth Ports ville de nye svovlregler øge fragtgebyret med 20 procent, hvilket ville få mange firmaer til at skiftet til engelske havne, og DFDS har sagt, at med mindre der skete ændringer ville rederiet flytte færgen til Teesport-ruten.

Nu har DFDS ladet sig overtale til at blive af den skotske regering, blandt andet fordi den skotske regering har indvilget i at give et tilskud på 156.000 pund til både DFDS og Forth Ports samtidig med, at havneoperatøren vil gennemføre nogle strukturelle ændringer.

Færgen Finlandia Seaways vil sejle på ruten med tre afgange i hver retning pr. uge, derudover indgår det i aftalen, at der skal ske forbedringer af infrastrukturen i havneterminalen, så fragtkapaciteten øges ved at tillade, at containerne kan stables i flere lag ovenpå hinanden.
