DFDS competitor running out of money
SHIPPING: DFDS’ new competitor on the crossing between Calais and Dover, My Ferry Link, is according to Lloyds Loading List, on the verge of running out of money. The Company has still not yet been paid an amount of 8 to 10 million Euro from SeaFrance’s bankrupcy.
The missing money comes from an amount set aside to help 350 to 400 former SeaFrance workers back into work after the company went bankrupt.
On 20 August the company opened a route between Calais & Dover in competition with DFDS and LD Lines who also opened routes after SeaFrance’s services were cancelled.
The director of My Ferry Link, Jean-Michel Giguet, confirms to Lloyds Loading List, that they are missing money from SeaFrance but gives no further explanation.
"Enabling funds are a part of our business foundation, and I am convinced that they will soon be paid", says Jean-Michel Giguet.
"It is urgent to get the money now, as our liquidity pressures."
"Further, we are influenced by the fact that it took nine months from SeaFrance stopped until we got started. During the period, we received serious competition on the route", says Giguet.
My Ferry Link operates the route with two ferries chartered by Eurotunnel who bought the ferries out of SeaFrance.
