Denmark re-elected to the IMO Council
SHIPPING: Denmark has been re-elected to the IMO Council for 2010-2011. Denmark has been a member of Council since 2001. This time, 113 countries voted for Danish representation in Council.
"It is a clear recognition of Denmark's work in the IMO that we have been elected to Council once again. Denmark makes a constructive contribution to the work of the IMO and has taken the lead in a number of fields. This requires knowledge and perseverance as well as innovative capabilities. Though we are a small country, we have much to offer. The election confirms that Denmark is a great maritime nation with international impact and we look forward to continue working in Council",
says Andreas Nordseth, Director General of the Danish Maritime Authority:
Denmark says it will proceed with its work to ensure a high level of safety at sea and protection of the marine environment. Furthermore, Denmark will - together with its international partners - still optimize the Organization's work so that the IMO maintains its position as the primary body for regulating international shipping.
