Danish Shipowners celebrate 125 years
SHIPPING: The Danish Shipowners' Association Tuesday celebrated its 125th anniversary with a private seminar at its Copenhagen headquarters. The Danish Vice Premier Minister Lene Espersen was among the many guests invited.
Chairman of The Danish Shipowners Association Torben Janholt.
"The 125th anniversary of the Danish Shipowners' Association is definitely an achievement, and during this period, we have faced some rough seas", the Chairman of The Danish Shipowners' Association, Torben Janholt, said in his keynote speech.
"As a matter of fact, Danish shipping has navigated peaks and dips since the Danish Shipowners' Association had its maiden voyage in 1884. International shipping has always been faced with challenges. At pre-sent, we have just left the highest markets ever experienced in our in-dustry and we have been taken by a tsunami into unprecedented violent and rough seas", Torben Janholt, who is also President and CEO of J. Lauritzen, said.
"Over the years, Danish shipping has shown a steady growth and today Danish shipping has a strong presence in almost all main markets. It is well known that Maersk is a leading player in container shipping, but Danish shipping also plays a leading role in other segments, for instance bulk, product tank, and transportation of gas products, where Denmark actually leads the world in modern gas transportation technology", Janholt stated.
