China Cosco stopper hajfinnetransport

China Cosco Shipping, Kinas største rederi, har lovet at forbyde transport af hajfinner. Den nye politik blev annonceret i et brev til Hongkong grenen af den amerikanske wildlife conservation gruppe, WildAid, ifølge den lokale avis South China Morning Post.

China Cosco Shipping slutter sig dermed til en lang række af verdens førende containerrederier om at gennemføre et forbud mod den kontroversielle last. Tidligere i denne måned blev 880 kg hajfinner fra den truede hammerhaj, der er beskyttet i henhold Hong Kongs lovgivning, fundet om bord på et China Cosco skib.

Hong Kong menes at være hovedstad i verdens handel med hajfinner. Staten tegner sig for halvdelen af den lovlige handel, ifølge World Wildlife Fund. 92 af de legale mængder transporteres med skib.

Maersk Line var det første rederi til at indføre et totalforbud mod transport af hajfinner på sine skibe tilbage i 2010.
