Admiral: Piraterne udgør stadig en trussel

Den operative chef for EU's NAVFOR, kontreadmiral Bob Tarrant advarer såvel søfarende som lande imod at tro, at pirateriet ud for Somalia nu er et overstået kapitel. Det sker efter, at et spansk krigsskib netop har stoppet formodede pirater i en lille båd 320 sømil fra land.

De seks somaliere om bord på havde ingen fornuftige begrundelse for, hvorfor de befandt sig i en lille båd så lang fra land, men desværre var beviserne i båden ikke stærke nok til, at de kunne sigtes for pirateri. Piraterne blev efterfølgende bragt tilbage til Somalia, hvor de ikke længere udgør en trussel for skibsfarten.

Men sagen understreger ifølge admiralen, at piraterne ikke har opgivet endnu, og blot venter på at finde det rigtige bytte.

De somaliske pirater har stadig to skibe og 54 søfolk i deres magt.
