28 sailors still stranded in Denmark
SHIPPING: Despite several positive signals, getting payment for the 28 foreign sailors, who are stranded without their salary on ships in Aabenraa, Vejle and Korsor has been unsuccessful. The International Transport Workers' Federation ITF hopes for an early solution.
"It looks like there will be a solution for the ship in Aabenraa soon. They have been promised payment by Thursday. And we are still negotiating with the owners of the other ships. They are trying to get the money", says ship inspector at ITF, Morten Bach to Fagbladet 3F.
Until the money arrives, the 28 Philippine and Eastern European sailors receive help for necessities such as clean drinking water and cigarettes from the local 3F offices in Vejle, Aabenraa and Korsor.
The three ships are Baltic Breeze docked in Vejle Port, Baltic Wind in Aabenraa Port and Dover docked in Korsor. All ships have Swedish owners, who either have financial issues or are declared bankrupt.
