27 migranter druknet ud for Frankrig

Mindst 27 migranter druknede onsdag da den båd de befandt sig på sank ud for Calais i Den Engelske Kanal. Immigranterne forsøgte at komme illegalt fra Frankrig til Storbritannien. De to lande vil nu forsøge at stoppe den illegale trafik.

”Frankrig vil ikke tillade, at Den Engelske Kanal bliver en kirkegård”, siger den franske præsident Emmanuel Macron.

To personer der befandt sig om bord på båden er reddet i live, mens to savnes.

De franske myndigheder har anholdt fire personer der menes at stå bag menneskesmuglingen.

Ifølge franske oplysninger er fire kvinder og et barn blandt de omkomne. De omkomnes nationalitet er ikke oplyst, og de franske myndigheder arbejder fortsat på at identificere de omkomne.

Strømmen af migranter der søger at passere Den Engelske Kanal illegalt har været stigende hen over året, og nåede et højdepunkt tidligere i denne måned, hvor mere end 1.000 migranter gik i land i Storbritannien.

Sammenlagt menes mindst 25.000 migranter at være sejlet illegalt over Den Engelske Kanal i år.
