150.000 søfolk venter på afløsning

Coronakrisen betyder, at omkring 150.000 søfolk den 15 maj har behov for at blive afløst, viser en oversigt fra International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) og International Maritime Employers Council (IMEC). Der er en stigning på 50 pct. fra ICS første gang satte fokus på problemet.

“Den nuværende situation kan gå ud over søfolkenes sikkerhed og mentale helbred,” siger Guy Platten, der er generalsekretær i ICS i en udtalelse, der peger på, at den manglende mulighed for at udskifte besætningerne også kan ramme skibenes mulighed for at levere efterspurgte varer på et tidspunkt, hvor landene har mest brug for det.

Shippingorganisationerne har løbenede forhandlet med nationale og internationale myndigheder om muligheden for at give de nødvendige tilladelser, der kan sikre besætningsskift. Men uden noget afgørende gennembrud endnu.

Globalt er der omkring 1,2 mio. søfolk om bord på 65.000 skibe. I de sidste to måneder er de planlagte besætningsskift blevet aflyst. Og de omfatter ifølge ICS 150.000 søfolk.
