The Blue Conference

The Maritime Development Center of Europe’s (MDCE) research and innovation conference, The Blue Conference, focuses for the seventh time on the latest maritime research and development under the theme “Competition and Consolidation”.

This year’s conference is held in the cradle of the maritime industry, namely in Svendborg, at The Svendborg International Maritime Academy (SIMAC), on the d. 6th of December, 2012. The conference focuses on the latest results of maritime research, and researchers, stakeholders from the industry, teachers, instructors at the maritime education institutions and universities will participate.

The project Danish Maritime Cluster focusses on developing and toning maritime education and training to match the need of the industry today and in the future. Associate professor Copenhagen Business School Energy efficiency in shipping – barriers and incentives

Shipping companies have strong incentives to raise energy efficiency in order to improve the bottom line and reduce CO2 emissions. However energy efficiency improvements are not always easily implemented due to various barriers in shipping markets and organizations. This presentation presents the first results of an ongoing research project on barriers to and incentives for energy efficiency improvements in shipping. The presentation also asks if Danish shipping can build competitive advantages from energy efficiency improvements in the future.
