Største redningsaktion i år for KBV 002

Søndag ankom KBV 002 Triton til Sicilien med 650 reddede indvandrere. Det er det største antal indvandrere Kustbevakningen har bragt i land i år. Fredag deltog KBV 002 i fem redningsaktioner i det sydlige Middelhavsområde.

”Det stiller store krav til besætningen at holde styr på tingene, når der er overfyldt. Det kan tære på kræfterne med 650 mennesker om bord i to dage. Det er omkring den tid, det tager at sejle fra Libyen til Italien. Men det er gået godt”, siger Mattias Lindholm, kommunikationsleder hos Kustbevakningen til Sjöfartstidningen.

Søndag begyndte morgen overleveringen til de italienske myndigheder og ngo'er, der har modtaget det svenske skib på havnen i Port Augusta på Sicilien.

Indtil den 31. august deltager KBV 002 triton i operation Frontex Triton. Missionen er at hjælpe Italien med at overvåge EUs ydre grænse, og redde liv på havet. Besætningen på KBV 002 består af personale fra kystvagten, politiet og to ambulancefolk fra det svenske civile beredskab.
