Shipowners will maintain pirates struggle
SHIPPING: Danish Shipowners' Association believes that it is important for Denmark as a large shipping nation to participate in the struggle against Somali pirates. Therefore, the shipowners are now appealing to the government to continue Danish efforts.
"It can be done either by sending out Danish liaison officers or by sending a inspection ship with a helicopter until one of the warship Absalon or Esbern Snare is again able to participate", says vice CEO of Danish Shipowners' Association Jan Fritz Hansen to Ritzau.
Danish Shipowners' Association has sent the appeal in a letter to Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Minister of Defence Soren Gade.
"I have not yet seen the letter, but it was decided before Christmas that two officers should remain at the headquarters in Bahrain until the end of 2010", says Minister of Defence Soren Gade through his PR manager Jacob Winther to the bureau.
Absalon will again reach Denmark by the middle of next week.
