New critique of icebreaker preparedness
SHIPPING: The Danish Ministry of Defence manages and runs the units responsible for maintaining the Danish preparedness for icebreaking. A broad assembly of The Blue Denmark believes that time and the general development have exceeded the current arrangements. They have therefore contacted the Minister on the matter once again.
Danish Ports, Danish Shipowners' Association and Danish Shipbrokers' Association contacted the Minster of Defence, Soren Gade, on the 3rd of April requesting a meeting on the future management of icebreaking.
The icebreakers are not working in Danish ports. Yet it is the port authorities and the ships calling there, which pay for the running of the preparedness. Time has exceeded the payment arrangement, because the ports and the ships paying the most need it the least - according to the associations. That is why the Ministry of Defence should provide a proposal on alternative arrangement. The associations would like to discuss the arrangement and present their wishes in a meeting with the Minister of Defence.
