Maersk changes organization - axes 100
SHIPPING: A.P. Moller-Maersk divides its headquarter into two units - a Corporate Centre and service functions. The reorganization entails the closure of 100 of the present 830 positions at Esplanaden in Copenhagen.
"It is regrettable that we have to tell some of our employees goodbye" says CEO Nils Smedegaard Andersen, "but in a time of increased pressure on all business units, central functions must be made more efficient to strengthen the competitive abilities of the Group".
The Corporate Centre will focus on a series of management tasks on group level within finances, accountancy, IT, communication and HR.
The service functions will solve tasks for both the Corporate Centre and the business units within areas such as purchases; IT services; technical ship operation; buying and selling oil and recruitment.
In the future, about 250 employees will be engaged at the Corporate Centre and 480 in the service functions.
"The division gives us a clearer distribution of responsibility. In addition, the operational responsibility will be placed where it belongs - decentralized in the business units. Furthermore, the new organization is simpler and less expensive", says Nils Smedegaard Andersen.
The reorganization changes a series of tasks and some will be discontinued. All together, it entails a reduction in the number of employees in the headquarter of the Group, where the 830 positions are expected to be reduced by approximately 100.
"We are saving all over the world and when the business units have to be able to compete, we have to be able to at the head quarters as well", says Nils Smedegaard Andersen.
