Largest order for Cruise ship carpets
MARITIME INDUSTRY: Hammer Carpets in Herning, Denmark has secured the largest order in their history. The carpet company will supply 360.000 square metres of carpets for four new cruise ships over the next three years.
The Herning-based Hammer Carpets has just secured the largest order in their history. The company will supply 360.000 square metres of carpet for four new cruise-ships which are being built in Germany for Norwegian Cruise Lines.
”It is one of the largest orders ever within the carpet industry and uses over 600 tonnes of high quality Wool. To us at Hammer this is of course a very big day. It is resounding vote of confidence for our Colortec qualities and secures confidence and stability in our production for years to come”, says Marketing- & Sales Director René Dupont.
Hammer Carpets is one of the largest suppliers of high quality contract carpets for the cruise industry and have their carpets on board the two biggest cruise ships in the World; Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Over 120.000 square meters of carpets from Hammer have been installed on these two ships alone. In addition Hammer supply a number of luxury hotel chains such as SAS Radisson, Choice and Accor Hotels.
”The order is a result of more than a year of intense work. We are the leading supplier of carpets to this sector within our trade and have over the years supplied more than a million square meters for new builds alone”, says owner and Managing Director, Tom Moller Jorgensen.
During the last few years the company has invested around € 5 millions in new technology. This secures not only high product quality with the Colortec technology but also a fast and smooth production. If this order was to be produced on a single machine the production would take more than 3 years. Fortunately as Hammer Carpets is the largest supplier in the world of Colortec qualities the time issue is not a problem.
Carpets for cruise-ships have special requirements for fire retardency, wear and appearance retention, as saltwater and sea-air make high demands on the high quality pre dyed 80% Wool/20% Nylon yarns used in their construction.
”To achieve such a big order is of course an expression of confidence. The customers are confident that we can supply the right quality and in the right time because we have the experience and the right production technology” says René Dupont.
The building of the ships will start in the beginning of 2011 at Meyer Shipyard in Germany, and the carpets are to be supplied over three years.
