Fredrecia Shipyard reaches record high
YARDS: With a turnover of more than half a billion DKK and a surplus of 82 million DKK, Fredericia Shipyard had its best year so far in 2008. Many foreign ship owners have opened their eyes to the small Danish repair- and service shipyard.
"We have never had as many foreign ships as this year. We see this as an indication that we are competitive. When a Japanese ship owner is operating in the Baltic States, our shipyard is reachable within 48 hours. This makes Fredericia an international shipyard, servicing international ship owners to ensure that the ships get back out on open waters quickly, " says shipbuilder and shipyard owner Thomas Andersen, Fredericia Shipyard to erhvervsbladet.
He estimates that app. 60 percent of the shipyard's costumers are foreigners while 40 percent are Danish. The fact that so many foreign ships have landed at Fredericia Shipyard has given the shipyard a lots of docking activities, and this is helps increase the turnover and earnings.
"We have invested in production devices along the way to live up to the increasing environment restraints and the ship owners demand for quality and precision. It is our reputation as a efficient and cost minded shipyard which has contributed to the increased interest we see from our foreign costumers", says Thomas Andersen.
The annual accounts were finished on the 30th of September 2008 and Thomas Andersen underlines, that the record outcome is not expected to be repeated, as there in the first months after the finishing of the annual accounts, has been a general downfall in the economy, which has increased the competition on the reparation orders.
